Chicken Breeds - WelsummerA Dutch breed from mixed origins
The Welsummer is a breed introduced by the Dutch in the early 20th. century. It is said to be from Rhode Island Red, Barnevelder, Leghorn and Wyandotte mixing - so certainly a mixture of breeds known to be great egg layers. The other claim to fame of the Welsummer Chicken is that rumour has it that Kellogg's used the Cockerel for the Corn Flakes packet ! They are known to be a docile breed and ideal for back garden chicken keeping, although not so easy to find. Welsummer owners say..As yet, we do not have any owner's comments on this bird. ____________________________________________
