Nearly Spring
In the past few days there has been a hint of better things to come down the Lane, the Snowdrops are thriving and other things I don’t know the name of (if you can’t eat it, I usually don’t know what it is!).

Three days of dry weather has enabled me to get some proper wood and I must have dragged over sufficient to last me through. This with the pallet and box wood I have, I shall at least keep warm whilst the nights are still cold.
A return to Cricket
In the last couple of weeks I’ve worked a few days at the Dressing Room generally tidying up, painting and a few other jobs which needed being done after the winter rest. The Cricket Players won’t notice of course, but I will – that’s the main thing!
The Squad get together again on 19th. March. It’s strange how the winter seems to go very slowly, then suddenly you’re rushing around frantically trying to get your own odd jobs done around the garden.
General Work Situation and Finances!
The financial situation got a bit desperate last week and I finally lost it whilst speaking to the seventh person at my Bank and going through the same conversation. Seems they still have a second Business Account of mine – this is the Account I have now closed five times and even watched them close it on a PC twice. Bankers!
Luckily, my other work has become urgent, so I’ve been working virtually full weeks. At least this has put me back in credit and can afford to feed the cats again (only joking).

Social Activities (a rarity!)
I went to Southampton for five days which was nice, all be it the weather destroying any hopes of getting out. I did manage to get down the City for a few hours; good for Leo, but I didn’t have any money and just shadowed.
At home I get the cats following me around all the time either after food or a lap (usually food), down there it’s the same with the Chiwawa, except he wants a lap. As soon as you sit down, no matter where he is in the house or garden, he’s in like lightning.
Mind you, I should be pleased, every other visitor usually gets attacked !
On my way back I called into see a Forum Member for a couple of hours, nice chat and a real joy to meet someone whom I’ve spent many an hour chatting over the Internet.
Last Sunday I visited my Mother in Sevenoaks. Brother Nigel and his partner Sally Anne also came and we enjoyed a visit to a nearby Garden Centre for Lunch. Being the weather we had, it was virtually empty, but the rain cleared away and I had a chance to take a peep at some Orpington Buffs in a Pen together with ex-battery hens.
They aren’t for sale and a good advert for fine breeds getting along OK with ’street cred ex-batts’.
I put my hand through the fencing; the Buffs wandered over but stopped short, the ex-batts flew over and had a darned good peck at my fingers – good on them!

The Chickens and garden.
Well, last week they started laying again, the first eggs since about mid November! Although they’re ex-battery hens and now approximately three years old, they do well.
The garden, Mmmm, this is another matter, it’s a mess and with all the work and other activities I haven’t spent any time in it at all.
Most years I get the same problem and end up spending days between cricket in vain attempts to get something going.
Last year we tried growing mainly in Pots. This was quite good, but not as good a crop as ‘proper earth’, so soon, very soon, I must get this under way and start digging.
