The Work floods in!
It’s strange, when the Cricket season finished I had no work planned at all and since then I’ve never stopped it seems!
Luckily I have diversity; there’s the Pond I’ve been doing, decorating and gardening work. This allows me to work around the weather and go to where suits best for that and as the Client is in no rush, I can also fit it in when I please, although I have to say, I’d like to get it all finished. Even after these jobs are finished, there’s more to come though, so I’m very blessed and may even go to the heights of affording some Christmas Cards this year!

I’ve also been asked to do some House Sitting for someone. I’ve done this before and suits me well. I can take the Laptop and get on with work without the bother of three cat’s persistently banging on my Garden Office door asking for food all day! It’s not far from here so convenient to pop back and do Chicken chores etc.
The Website Up-dating
In between all the above I’ve been attempting to get the design changes done. Those who read the Diary on a regular basis will see the changes have been made here already, but the pages are taking a time and there’s many a day where you will find my Office lights still on at two in the morning!
My own deadline for completion though is pretty much on schedule. The plan is to get the Site back up to scratch by Christmas, then going hell for leather writing new material until the end of March comes round and I’m back to Cricket.
The Home and Garden
I’ve mostly finished the garden for the year. I’m still trying hard to ripen off the Squash, but have to admit that my early aspirations for a really good crop are literally being squashed (excuse the pun!).
The very late start to Winter weather has not helped in my quest of leaf clearing, even the Acer has not shed them yet and having kept a record of this for the last ten years or so, it’s about 4 weeks behind time.

Last weekend though, time did allow me to spend a good ten hours outside, so this enabled me to dig over the vegetable patches, tidy up the Chicken Run, saw more wood, prune many dead branches from bushes and trees, have a ‘real blokes Bonfire’ (felt the heat from 15 metres), do the leaves and clean the car.
In my continuing quest of stopping the local Pigeon population from using the Chimney Pots as a resting and observation post then falling down into the Sitting Room and Kitchen below, some chaps came and capped them.
After testing which Chimney was which, they capped two and caged the other two. It was three days later that I realised they’d capped the wrong two and saw smoke seeping out one of the caps and the brickwork as well………They returned to put right!
Good news is that the Lane can now take Fibre Optic speeds on Broadband adn this will increase my rather misely 1.1Mb speed up to an estimated 24Mb. This will at least allow me to waste even more time watching YouTube videos without the annoying pause. Up until now I’ve blamed the slow internet speeds on to the cats!
A new Car!!
All I did was to go to the local Kia Dealer to ask what I could get for the same money! The reply was the same as I have but three years younger. Seemed good to me, but they only had black and it’s the colour which is part of the reason for me wanting a change – forever showing every bit of dirt there is.
I happened to say I liked the new Kia Picanto model and after tapping out in the PC., the chap informed me that I could have one of those for only £30 per month extra.
With zero road tax, up to 75mpg, roadside assistance and a 7 year Warranty, I decided it was the most cost effective exercise and duly signed my life away for yet another three years! But after the extra’s I’m getting, it’s about a tenner a month more and I have re-assurance, plus the tyres need changing on my existing car soon etc. etc. (keep telling yourself it’s the best thing to do Dickie!!).
For quite a few years I brought older cars and was continually spending money on them, I think the RAC had a satellite fix as to where I was going every day and making sure there was a Breakdown Truck in that area.
It arrives sometime at the end of this month. Can’t wait, it’s the first brand new car I’ve ever brought and have to say, it feels like being a young lad again and waiting for the latest Rupert Annual to come out!!
So, lot’s going on. Strange, twelve years ago I was earning almost twice what I do now, loads of responsibilities etc. but with all I have now, life is a lot richer.

Yes your life is richer now but would you have believed it while working at your old job?
I would not have believed either.
Sigh, so now I know why older folks always seemed so busy and happy!
