JOGLE route - St.Columb to Marizion

Day 22 of my end to end cycle ride

St. Michaels Mount, Cornwall
One one the most splendid scenes in the Country - St. Michael's Mount

I was a bit worried for the first ten miles or so after leaving St. Columb, I must have passed five signposts saying Newquay 6 miles and even looking at the map, I couldn't see why. Maybe they ran out of transfers!

My first stop was unscheduled. I was cycling along quite happily and I saw what looked like a Railway Station just below a very tatty bridge I was crossing, I'd stumbled upon Newlyn East along with it's narrow gauge railway.

The Guy working there said there'd be a train coming along in 10 minutes so, knowing in any railway network that it meant 15, stopped and waited. This did give a chance though to talk railway, we'd both worked for them - before privatisation!

As much as I wanted to stay, I had to get on and followed my zig zag non A30 route to the tee and it worked very well all be it a choice of language at some of the hills again. My short adventure on to the A30 was about the most scary of the whole trip; not only narrow but Motorists seems to think there's a 70mph minimum speed limit along it.

This took me to just outside Redruth where I didn't so much leave it, I ran away from it! I saw a sign saying Camborne 6 miles and this confirmed they had run out of transfers!

Going south towards and after climbing another blinder of a hill just outside Redruth, you're downhill all the way with the scent of the English Channel getting closer by the minute.

Mind you, that doesn't mean to say you can't stop and have a Coffee and the little Cafe in Praze served up the best one I'd had on the whole trip - it was so good, I had two!!

I continued along until I reached the A394 Helston to Penzance road. It was my intention then to find a B&B in Penzance itself, but I suddenly caught sight of Cycle Route 3 on my left and crossed the grass verge onto it.

After cycling no more than a mile, I turned a bend and there before me was St. Michael's Mount. Madness came over me, this is where I want to stay the night, I want to see the sun go down here and come up again on my final morning. So I bit the bullet and paid the most I had for a B&B on the whole journey - but 'because I'm worth it!'

The price of food there was a bit strong however. Luckily there's a sit down Fish and Chip shop, so I saved a bit of the money by eating there.

I spent a good three hours just mingling around the beach. I sat, I walked, I thought and all was good. Tomorrow was nearly here!
