My son has arrive down the lane for a temporary, maybe permanant basis and I needed to get a few things sorted out on the financial side. At the best of times I’ve about 25p in my pocket and where we live means a 4 mile bus trip etc.,etc.

So, boldly I went. Never before in 58 years have I claimed anything back from whichever Government has been in regardless of the fact I may be due something.

So, the Tax Office - In the summer, because I’m classed as Casual Labour, I pay full basic rate tax. Then on 1st.April I claim it back - it’s quite a bit usually, over £600 anyway. So I thought, as they knew this happens every year, I may be able to get at least some of it back now - NO Mr.Cannon!!

Similar at DHS, I have a small pension, so tough luck.

However, I went to the College and at least there were very nice people there who I talked with about getting a Bus Pass for my Son. I saw two Assistants, who know Leo as well, both helpful and understanding of the situationand it would seem that at least that part of my day went well. EXCEPT….

BOTH THOUGHT I WAS LEO’S GRAND FATHER !!!

Last year I found it quite entertaining when the Receptionist in Specsavers said in passing “You don’t have to pay do you Mr. Cannon” and upon asking her “Why”, she replied “You are over 60 aren’t you” !

But this time - two people in a row OH DEAR

It’s a good thing I’ve got a sense of humour with a ‘past caring anyway’ attitude most of the time.
What worries me most though is, if they get it that wrong when I’m 57 and 58 respectively, what the heck am I going to look like in another 5 years - although they all probably think I won’t be here by then anyway. :)
