Earthquake in Kent

« Previous: The cranes in Spain

At last, the local TV and Radio can forget about the normal main item of “Cyclist falls off bike and hurts dog” and replace it with news of global importance!

There I was, a rare lay in for me, staring at the ceiling contemplating getting up, when the earth literally moved for me.

For about 7/8 seconds a big rumble came over the house, I could see the walls kind of move, my dreamcatcher over the bed started swaing from side to side and the cats darted out the house in bewilderment.

Kent had a 4.7 tremor and I felt one for the first time in my life. I must admit to being quite excited by switching on BBC News 24 some ten minutes later to find Folkestone and Ashford breaking news at last!

As the reports flood into the BBC (’Ben from Hythe’etc), you can’t help but think; no rain for over 4 weeks, hottest April on record etc.,etc.

I hope it gave the slugs and mice, who have been busy of late feasting themselves on my baby lettuce and carrots, a bit of a shockwave too!

Oh well, a topic of discussion for people of Kent this morning and no doubt for a few days to come. Earthquakes don’t happen round these parts you know!

As the Jethro joke goes; “On the news - An earthquake hit Kent this morning and did 10 million pounds worth of improvement”
