How Old is Old?

« Previous: How to look busy

Ask this question to any kids under the age of 21 and they’d probably say 40 !
Ask anyone my age (59 at the time of writing) and they probably wouldn’t like to give an answer.

I would say myself that at 59, I’m ‘getting on’ and people I could catagory as ‘old’ are probably the age of my Mother who’s 81.

The thing is that the perception of ‘old’ isn’t really in looks etc., it’s more in knowledge.
What I mean is that if I know a persons age, or if I can guess by non-appearance factors, it’s going to say to my brain ’she’s old’ or ‘he’s old’.

We can spend as much as we like on plastic surgery and go round like wax on wheels, but the brain inside is the age you are albeit ‘younger’ in some than others plus how we feel is often by how WE think WE look.. Sobeit, there’s nothing against someone spending a bit of money if they can afford to and if it’s going to make them feel better for it - praise be!

But trying to stay young isn’t about face lifts with nips and tucks here and there, it’s about being active and looking as best as you can.
This can be done through generally keeping yourself fit and keeping the old brain as young as possible. And of course, cosmetics can be really effective.

Some would say they prefer to see a very attractive 60 year old than a 60 year old trying to look 40! and I think I’d go along with this view.

So, how old is old? It’s everyones personal perception of it. One things for certain that no matter what that perception is, we’re getting closer to it minute by minute and second by second. We cannot escape it, it wins in the end!

It’s when the brain is saying you’re 25, but the rest of you’s saying it’s 58 that the paranoia sets in!!

I have no doubt that one day there will be the technology to stop our hair going ’silver’, out teeth dropping out and our skin taking a downward direction, but until then we have our cosmetics, our keep fitness, our nips, tucks, fold overs, fold unders.

But the most important is to
FEEL COMFORTABLE, FEEL GOOD, FEEL YOUNG AND FEEL HAPPY !
I went into a famous bookshop today doing a bit of research on ‘Computers for Seniors’.

I saw one, picked it up and glanced through and all the information appeared to be exactly the same as any other tutorial, but the thing which made it ‘especially for seniors was’……….

It was in large type !!

I’m surprised they didn’t have a free pair of dentures to go with it!
