Oh, ‘what’s-his-name’

« Previous: Bicycle Thief Returns!
Next:Is it easy being Green? »

I’m not quite 60 yet, but I have to admit that I’m rapidly falling into the mode which made me laugh at my own parents and mentors a few years back. The other problem being that having a conversation with someone about the same age makes it even worse.

The conversation usually takes place whilst watching the televsion. It usually goes something like this…..

“There’s a good Play on TV tonight”
“Really, who’s in it it?”
“Oh, that chap who was in that other thing”
“What thing”?
“That Play about the family in Manchester, or Glasgow. Forget which”
“Who else was in it”?
“That Actress with the blond hair who was in Coronation Street”.
“Oh, the one who ran off with so and so, the bloke from the house with yellow windows”
“I don’t temember a house with yellow windows”
“You’re right, that was the house further down”
“Oh, you mean the chap who was in that other play about football”
“What, the one last year”
“No, it was on years ago”
“Want a cup of tea?”
“No thanks, I don’t drink Tea”

And so it goes on - and on - and on!

It came to an even worse head last night….
“What’s that Actors name who was in that comedy where they all sit on a Sofa?”
“What, the chap with the Beard”
“Yes, that’s him”
“I forget, but I’ll look him up on the Internet”
“OK”
“His name’s Ricky Tomlinson isn’t it”
“Yes, that’s him”.

The other one is getting the names almost right. For example…

“What’s that actor’s name who was in Braveheart”?
“Oh, you mean Mel Torme”
“No, Gibson”
“What, Gibson Torme, never heard of him”

The worse thing about getting these ‘blank spots’ is that you can remember most names of people who were in your class at School, but not the person you were introduced to half an hour ago.

It worries me that if I’m like this at 59 and 8 month’s, what will I be like when I’m 69!!

Oh well, I’m off to find the car keys. I know they’re here, because I used the car to get home last night and it’s parked outside.
