The Nosey Robin

I love just about every wild bird. Seeing them in my front garden from the Kitchen window never ceases to amaze me what clever and ‘cred’ these creatures are.
We’ve got Woodpeckers, Chaffinch’s, Ti.t’s, the occasional Bullfinch, Heron’s, just about everything that flies in this part of Kent.

But one bird you can be sure of giving that little bit extra entertainment is the Robin and the funny thing is that you always think it’s the same one, but it isn’t of course!

Just do anything in the garden or backyard and you can almost hear them saying, “Hello, what’s that, I’ll take a peep”.
This morning I knew he (or she) would come as soon as I started raking up some leaves, so I had the camera ready.
For a few moments I could see him flittering around the other side of the Holly Tree, then sure enough, through the gateway he came.

He wasn’t just nosey enough to have a look and go away. He had to sit on the wheelbarrow and inspect it’s contents before finding the nice tree stub to sit on waiting for me to rake up that lunchtime insect or juicy Sunday Lunch Worm!

He can give you a jump as well if you’re not careful. There I was merrily cleaning the upstairs windows the other week, about twenty feet up a Ladder. But he doesn’t care and suddenly flew and perched on a rung about two up from my head - very funny!

Somehow or other, Robin’s in particular seem to see your garden as their house and if there’s anyone strolling around ours, we’d want to have a look wouldn’t we?

Let’s hope that modern mankind doesn’t do to the Robin what it has to many other birds and creatures.

Let’s also hope that in another 200 years that my granchildren’s grandchildren share the pleasures we get from nature.

They were here before us and would be after us as well if we gave them the chance.

Robin in Flight

All the more important for us to protect our wildlife in this country and like charity - this begins at home!

But, for now and the Robin as Bruce Forsyth would say - “You’re my favourite” !
