Re: electric bike

Hi everyone. Sorry been away so didn't reply to your post Richard, the charge lasts up to 25 miles but this is really dependent on which of the 3 power levels used and how much time it is on. i havent yet run it till it is flat as i don't have the power on except for the hills. It cost £440 from tes...

cold

I have had my 3 hybrid rescued hens since may. Do I need to do anything to keep them warm during the winter? I have noticed that they have started to puff up their feathers as it gets colder, there is a door between their coop and their fox proof run do you think I should shut this to keep them warm...

safety

whilst I have never seen a fox around here I really can,t take any risks. My problem is that as it gets lighter earlier I would like to let my hens out of the coop and into the run before i get up,about 8am but that means leaving the door to the coop open all night, whilst the run seems secure from pr...

Re: does anyone have or know someone with fybromyalgia

Thanks a lot everyone. I finally got an allotment last October and my wife had just bought me a chicken coop for Christmas so now I can get on with all the plans I had before this stuff hit.Not quite up to assembling the flat pack coop yet but won't be long and luckily I had dug over and manured abo...

Re: does anyone have or know someone with fybromyalgia

Well good news although it didnt feel like it a couple of weeks ago. Two days after posting that the doc thought I was probably suffering from fybromyalgia I very quickly became extremly ill and was taken into hospital. I was by this time more or less out of it, apart from some quite embarrassing ra...

Re: does anyone have or know someone with fybromyalgia

Thanks for the advise, I think you're right it is very early days and the symptoms do wax and wane so I will just fit the more strenuous stuff for when I am feeling better. To be honest I was feeling a bit sorry for myself yesterday and now I am going to take it a day at a time and keep positive. Th...

does anyone have or know someone with fybromyalgia

I have just got back from the GP and he said that he wants to do some tests to rule out some things but he thinks from my symptoms that I have this damn thing. Can't say I am not a little devastated, I only got an allotment last October and wifey generously bought me a chicken coop for christmass. N...

Re: electricity usage advice please?

Hi everyone, I have just got rid of my storage heaters after using them for about 20 years. I would say that they are the next best system after mains gas. I had 5 and with my hot water heating up over night on the cheap rate it really wasn't too expensive, you will save by only having a standing ch...

Re: Supermarkets

That stuff is great for topping up those pump soap dispensers that cost about a quid. you get 4 refills for a few pence and it's just as good as the real stuff.

Supermarkets

Whilst I have reservations about these cathedrals of consumerism I have to admit I still use them, I have recently started to compere prices between them and I am amazed at the difference. There is no such thing as a cheap supermarket, Aldi and Lidl are top price for many items and Tesco can be real...

Re: Shoes - essential or luxury?

I really enjoy walking in the house and garden barefoot especially in the summer, but recently I seem to be getting a bit clumsy which has resulted in a broken toe, after bashing it on the broad bean container. So unfortunatly am having to wear shoes at all times for a while.

I don't know if they do it differently now but my dad put some bags of council compost on his garden and ended up with all sorts of horrible weeds growing in his flower beds (mare's tail etc.) I've not been able to use it since, in fact they have stopped giving it out now. I presume they give it to ...

I was concerned that the quote sounded a bit pompous so I'm glad others agree with it. It is from a book published in 1981 called Voluntary Simplicity by Duane Elgin. It is the best I've found yet because it deals with what it calls, the philosophy of simplicity, as well as the more practical side a...
