Re: Half term meals.

My fave was Meat & Potato pie with a suet crust - I can't remember if she used skirt or shin beef - but it was in the oven for hours. First in a bowl went the diced meat, sliced carrot and chopped onion just covered in water and seasoning, then when they were cooked tender (about an hour or so) lots...

Re: Half term meals.

It’s simple to boil a 12p egg in your saucepan if you’ve the 99p to buy the whole box, and a saucepan to go with it. and can afford the gas or electricity to cook it The best meals my mother made were from using cheap cuts of meat or offal (but not tripe )loo( ) into thick soups, stews, puddings, p...

Re: Half term meals.

And he is offering them to our village and neighbouring villages, I can't see that one lunch is worth travelling far for (assuming those who need it have got a car) if you can afford a car, then you must surely be able to afford to feed your kids (I know that sounds a bit simplistic assuming the ca...

Re: Half term meals.

I suppose something is better than nothing but in terms of a healthy meal or variety, the suggested is seriously lacking. On the one hand, it sounds like a noble gesture to offer the food but there's a cynic in me wondering ...

Re: My, how things have changed

14 almost 15 years ago when Chloe was born the midwife came and told Sarah off for using baby powder. It's possible the reason was because talcum powder is linked to contamination with asbestos and the risk of cancer Talcum powder is a finely ground natural mineral which can in some areas where it ...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back

I enjoyed last night's Strictly line up - my earlier comments about who may likely leave first still stand but overall I thought all the dancers did well and some have potential to do better. Maisie Smith (anyone else notice the mistake at the end?) and HRVY were very good, even Ranvir Singh started...

Re: Supernatural (final Season 15)

Funny enough I have recently been watching a lot of reality ghost series (like Most Haunted and Paranormal rather than fiction) A lot of it is boring or they have someone who screams at the slightest noise which I find very annoying, but now and again something happens that makes you wonder. There i...

Supernatural (final Season 15)

Not many people are Supernatural fans so I'll understand if this topic doesn't generate much interest - I've watched all 14 seasons with the strong possibility that the 15th was never going to be aired on UK tv so was quite surprised to find that it will be after all. Maybe the Covid pandemic has hi...

Re: Strictly Come Dancing back

Strictly Come Dancing is back )t' I missed it on Saturday night - I tend to save some tv series I do enjoy and watch them over the weekend so was unaware that it was even on (which surprised me as normally the BBC advertise it well in advance but I haven't seen anything) After watching the news this...

Re: My, how things have changed

It makes sense to use steroids as too often the severe symptoms which can be fatal in some cases, are caused by the body over-reacting to an infection (similar to how some of the severe cases of Covid are being described) Bear in mind that these medicines are relatively new compared to the coal tar ...

Re: Great British Bake Off

I lose interest towards the end of the series (though still watch it) when only the good bakers are left I find the same with Masterchef (I prefer the celebrity series because there's usually a lot more humour than on the more serious professional series) Towards the end of the series when the rema...

Re: Sloe Gin

I wouldn't mind trying that, if you could make sloe vodka. I hate the smell of gin. ilona I don't like the smell of gin either - smells like perfume - but a mature sloe gin seems to have a fruitier aroma. I see no reason why you can't substitute with vodka instead because a lot of different fruits ...

Has anyone got a recipe for Marmite (no, maybe not). I know Marmite is made from brewer's yeast (something I remember when I went on a works trip/night out to one of the Burton on Trent breweries (it was a tour of the brewery followed by sit down meal - a small group of us decided we really could o...

Re: Lucas

Lucas is well and at the moment he is happily purring by my feet while I'm on the computer but I think he is just letting me know that he would rather I feed him. For the past week, his "appetite" has gone off the charts - but I don't think it is so much giving him more food when he has a bowl of bi...
