Re: Storksis it normal to see them arrive in March? You mentioned in August that the storks left early. I just wondered if the trend was more a climate change thing (many birds and animals have been changing their migration patterns) than weather related.
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! Not sure about Vivaldi spuds but I thoroughly enjoy listening to Nigel Kennedy playing Vivaldi! {rofwl} funny Have you tried Vivaldi potatoes ? Lab studies have shown 'Vivaldi' to be lower in calories and carbohydrates than many other popular potato varieties 'Vivaldi' is a Second Early variety pro...
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! Mine occasionally were found by rats. Then lately the little slugs made tunnels all over them, so they were like sponges. So I've given them up. A lot really depends on the variety - some are more resistant to slug damage (flesh tend to be firm), and how long they remain in the soil (an early varie...
Re: Compulsory registration for all keepers of birds in the UKThere has been several views made about keeping back yard chickens indoors during the height of the avian flu. I see it from both points and if I kept chickens, I would have complied with the recommendation - to keep my own flock safe (as I would from predators) but also because the strain of avian ...
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! Learnt two things from your post, thanks, much appreciated. )t' In spring, you "chit" the oca tubers just like potatoes (sit them in an egg box on a bright but not sunny windowsill until the buds form) As they are smaller than potatoes, you can then plant them into a plant pot to grow on and then p...
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!I miss growing Jerusalem artichokes - they made excellent "chips" when sliced and deep fried. They grew well in less than ideal soil on the allotment but were prone to slug damage which is why they needed to be harvested as soon as the plants died back. Have you tried growing Oca? They are another a...
Re: Getting back to painting & drawingMy friend asked me to draw her young dog, a Belton Blue English Setter. She gave me a photo to work from but it had poor definition (I couldn't see whether the left ear was turned in or had a black patch with a tuft of white fur, and the eyes in the photo were just dark smudges) so I had to google s...

Re: LucasJust looking back of some previous posts and noticed it is exactly a year ago when I posted: In late January, he decided to creep into the living room and sleep under the table (next to the middle door to the dining room) but gradually and eventually made his way to the bed in front of the oil radia...

Re: Getting back to painting & drawingA friend of mine suggested opening the photo I'd taken with Paint on the computer and digitally add colour so that I can decide BEFORE colouring in the original artwork. She also suggested blue eyes but I think the yellow eyes look better: https://i.ibb.co/BjP3gFz/wolf-eyes-yellow.jpg https://i.ibb....
Re: ... and so it beginsTwo years since it was first reported, seems the company making wood pellets from protected trees in Canada to use in UK power stations as the "green" alternate to fossil fuel is still going on. They were only supposed to use diseased wood or from planted trees. Worth reading the BBC report as it sh...
Re: Getting back to painting & drawingMy latest is what I would have called a pen & ink drawing (when you would dip the pen nib into ink to draw) but using Fineliner pens are so much better (no more accidental blobs to disguise!) It feels like I'm cheating but the time taken to do what I thought was a small piece still took a lot longer...
