Re: Sloe Gin

DH was given a kit last christmas to make our own gin from vodka & flavour it with various botanicals. Every few months we make some from the cheapest vodka we can find, its been very good so far. I also recommend Raspberry vodka, and blackberry whisky.

Re: Off Grid Living

I'm sure you need to apply for permission, & you'll need access to sanitation. Otherwise everyone would be doing it & gypsy/travellers would be able to settle anywhere without contest. However, you can put a mobile home up to a certain size in your "garden" without permission so long as it isnt tota...

So sorry Bob. Keep that space in your kitchen available, no doubt another little creature will be needing it sometime soon.

Misspiggy just sat for the usual few weeks. However Bonny once sat for several months, but then she is a bit of a strange old thing.

Re: Blind Giblet & friends at Chickenopolous

A month on & Poppy seems fine. I always think they're on deaths door but they keep recovering. They made it through the heatwave by hiding in the sweetcorn, especially Bonny who spent most of her time in there. Bonny keeps getting lost & I find her on her own calling the others, I think her ...

Re: karen's chicken diary

Some folk on a chicken group are talking about spraying a mix of oil & detergent in the crevices on their coops for redmite, it smothers them - a bit like vaseline I spose. They reckon it works but bet its messy! I've always pressure sprayed with poultry shield in a garden pump spray. Praps if y...

good grief Bob how awful for you. Urban foxes are so much more brazen than rural ones. You must feel like you cant let your guard down for a minute. How are the survivors now?

I'm glad you said about the pumpkins being early, mine are too & I thought I must have put them in at the wrong time. I wonder if they'll keep growing bigger or go rotten before haloween?

Well the results are in! Stuff has or hasnt worked out. In the greenhouse one of the cucumber plants got mildew/disease/blight? which took the colour from the leaves & worked its way up until I chucked it. The other plant seemed ok but gradually succumbed & now only the top 10" are stil...

Gosh I'd almost forgotten they lay eggs. All we get now is the occasional fart egg from Giblet.

The chooks seem happy enough with growers pellets - with added grapes & fresh sweetcorn of course. Poppy's poops are more or less normal now, but I picked her up today & she's still quite thin. Her & Bill were treated for scaleyleg a few weeks ago, but I've noticed its still active &...

Re: Poor old cat

When my elderly dog, who was a very picky eater, needed medicine I would put it in a bit of sardines or tuna so she couldnt taste it. Or maybe try some raw meat?
