Re: What were your favourite books as a Child ?

original post removed due to spamming in signature box Such a nice topic, I think these are going to depend on the age of the child and their stage of development. My son who is two enjoys pictures of real babies and real farm animals. He will comment about the feelings of the babies and animals he ...

Re: Slow worm in my Garden

Worms are the business for recycling compost.
Apparently when New Zealand was first settled by the West they failed pretty much in every agricultural endeavour until they introduced European earthworm which improved the soil and turned it into what we now see.

Re: Animals are to lose their EU protection

We do as well Mo, I always strive for UK produce unless you can't get it (Parma ham for instance). Not always the cheapest but worth it in my mind.

Re: Animals are to lose their EU protection

The UK has higher animal welfare standards than pretty much the rest of the EU already. Some things that folk might not be aware of is what can and cant be labelled as EU produce. The EU allows meat to be imported from a lot of countries around the world but not from others. For Instance you can not...

Re: Solar Panels are great, but........

I believe that Teslar have come up with a roof tile which is in itself a solar panel, cheaper to produce than conventional panels and less ugly.

I have 80w solar panels for my caravan, great bit of kit, they keep the leisure battery topped up a treat.

Re: Today Plastic straw free ...tomorrow who knows :)

we, as a family, have gone pretty much plastic straw free. I never buy them for home anyway so it is only when we dine out or pop to the pub that we (I) ask not to have any straws with the children's drinks and because we have explained about the pollution they no longer ask for straws.

Slow worm in my Garden

I hadn't seen a slow worm for year but recently one turned up in my garden. I have seen it a few times most recently in the compost bin. will try and get a photo.

Re: Turmeric

Tumeric and ginger makes for an excellent marinade for chicken. I add it to liquidised brown onion and some fish sauce or soy. great for on the barbecue. >veg3< )c+ >eas1<

I can also assure you that drinking beer does in no way deter mosquitoes, I have carried out extensive research on the subject. )hic(

Re: More memories...The Larder (Pantry)

My Parent’s house, built in the mid 60s has a Larder, funnily my Mum who comes from Kent calls it a larder whereas my Dad (from Hampshire) refers to it as a pantry; must be a posh Kentish thing (or is that a thing of Kent?) I remember as a child, my Mum walking us (Sister in a pram) to the local sho...

Re: mosquito bites & diet

Skin so soft worked for me up until this year when it has been totally impotent. I have gone for some stuff called smidge which isn’t cheap but has kept them off. I also have lantern in which I burn citronella candles.

I too am a midge magnet.

cycling to work

After a break of a few years due to my job(s) not being conducive to cycling to work (one of them involved working in Vietnam, Djibouti and Holland (where I did do a bit of cycling)), I have got back on my bike and now do the 4 miles to and from work at least four times a week; the fifth day it does...

Re: Fair Isle: Living on the Edge

I enjoyed watching it, to be honest i watch more BBC 4 than any other channel these days, nothing much on the main ones of interest except perhaps BBC 2 which does some good documentary stuff.
