You have been busy, Manda.
I had my apple trees. pear and magnolia pruned two weeks` since. The bottom half of the garden looks quite bare. My rasp canes have all been dug up. They had not fruited for some time, and I am hoping to buy new ones and grow them in pots.

Thank you Trev, looks very much like the book, which LL wrote about. I have used Abe books in the past, but will not buy it at present.

Has anyone read or got a copy of Chang? We had a copy at home, and I cannot find it anywhere. From the internet, I gather that it was a popular school book in the fifties. My parents were teachers, so we had everything on educational lines, even our holiday to London in 1953 was complete with our I ...

I was browsing through our village site on Facebook this morning, and saw several people had posted about seeing the Northern Lights which had been seen in the early evening here and in the surrounding areas. The photos were beautiful. So disappointed, they are on my bucket list. They were visible s...

I was told by the doctor that she would phone me the afternoon after my tests, which was Tuesday. By the time we got home, a phone call had been made, saying they would phone in the next twenty four hours. Nothing the following day, and the doc eventually called me on Thursday afternoon. I have a pr...

Last Thursday and Friday, I had eye migraines. It is many years since my last one, but the migraine progressed to the point where I could not work out how to make a phone call, or send a text. Most odd, and worrying. I managed to send a text via messenger to a nearby neighbour, but it didn`t make mu...

My gravel drive, and one under my living room window have gone crazy with weeds this year. I have applied at least two lots of white vinegar to them. Today, I tried diluted bleach on the drive ( I checked on the internet first), and vinegar outside my living room window. It was a back breaking job ....

I phoned the dentist yesterday just to check if I needed to take any pension credit confirmation with me for my appointment in November. Gutted to be told that unless I received guaranteed pension credit, the treatment would not be free. Oh well. I have put my applications in for a council tax and T...

I have just found out from reading the internet, that anyone in receipt of pension credit could be eligible for free dental, help with council tax and also the TV licence. I receive a minute amount of credit, but it will entitle me to receive the winter fuel allowance this year. Apart from dental tr...

My hanging baskets are over, the back lawn which was yellow has recovered, thanks to the much needed rain. My greenhouse toms are nearly over, and my rasps, pear and apples have done absolutely nothing. The rasps will be removed, and the trees pruned. I have asters beginning to flower, something els...

I have been using white vinegar with one part water to my weeds in cracks and on the gravel. I have a long drive, and done at least two applications this summer. Now planning a third. Twenty years ago, I was physically able to get the weeds up by hand, those were the days. It costs round fifteen pou...
