Re: 4 Hens looking for a new home - Colchester, Essex

What a lovely update Bob, made me smile. Nellie and Blondie were always the friendlier of the lot, Nellie will climb on your back when cleaning the run, scared the life out of me the first time she did it! I'm happy they've gone to such a caring keeper and sounds like a fantastic home for them. Than...

4 Hens looking for a new home - Colchester, Essex

Due to moving and being unable to take our girls with us, we are looking for a new home for 4 chickens. 2 rescue hens that we have had for 18months, the feathers have never regrown on the back of one; and 2 marbled brown hens. 3 still lay regularly, the other when she fancies. This is for the chicke...

Is it possible for egg shell to change colour?

Hi everyone, can I call on your wisdom? We got our chickens 2 weeks ago and one of the hens, white with brown flecks, laid pale green eggs. She laid for the first 3 days then no more green eggs. I thought she'd stopped laying due to the heat but this morning I watched her go in to the nest box, seve...

Re: Finding a new home for Ivor - Suggestions please

Hi, poor you and Ivor! {cry}
I don't know where in Essex you are, but there was a lovely young man in Colchester who took our cockerals 2 yrs ago. If you follow the link for breeders, his email is under "Scarletts". He has a small holding and really loves his animals.
Hope that helps! >fi<

Why are chickens so adorable?

Seriously, they are. But why? We have recently adopted 6 hens and one by one my family have all been affected. I have found my children just sitting in the run chatting with the girls, even my 12yr old boy will stay in there for hours. They spent ages choosing names until they found the right one fo...

Re: Hens wanted for family in Colchester, Essex

We have now found 6 hens that needed a forever home. They came from a home where they were well loved but situation changed and their owners could no longer look after them. We are more than happy, as the hens have already settled in and are very friendly.
Thanks for everyone's help!

Plants to avoid with chickens

Hi there, we are getting new chickens and are trying to keep hubby happy with his green-fingers. Are there any plants to avoid putting near the chicken run? Any plants that are dangerous/poisonous to hens? We had chickens before and know they will peck anything, including my painted finger nails as ...

Hi, I am interested, but I've just got to convince hubby to travel. Do you have any pictures of the hens and house? How old are the hens and whereabouts are you? Thanks, Clare
ps, we have previously kept chickens and they were pets and adored by all the family.

Re: Hens wanted for family in Colchester, Essex

Thanks, I have thought about rehoming hens actually. We have had rescue hens before but they were very timid and ended up being bullied by our other girls. May try again as this time they will be the only hens.

Hens wanted for family in Colchester, Essex

We are looking for some girls to grace our garden again, sorry no boys allowed as we live in central Colchester. We would like 4-6 hens ideally. We have previously kept chickens but the fox got them. We have now made a super fox-proof run and feel ready to get chickens again. We are willing to trave...

what size chicken wire?

is 1inch ok, or should we go for 1/2inch?
Just ordering a lovely new walk in run, since the fox got my chickens in the spring, and don't want any misshaps. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks
