Re: Does anyone use a full height plastic garden shed as coo

Thanks for the tip off Richard - that's a good price. I'll have a look at that site. I'm not massively handy myself, but I'm sure the other half would 'enjoy' spending his day off work sorting it out for me +f+ {rofwl}

Re: The gakel-call (cluck cluck cluck cluck SQUAWK!)

Oh yes they certainly have their own language and own voices :-D

The 'cluck cluck cluck cluck bakaaaaaaaw!' sound is very different to their 'I've just laid an egg' call in our case....I suppose it's possible it could be them wanting to lay an egg I suppose....

Re: noise: please help :(

Also see my post about the gakel-call )w( I sympathise as my hens are all noisy blighters - the slightest thing sets them off - a dog bark, a lawnmower, the neighbours sitting in their garden chatting yike*

The gakel-call (cluck cluck cluck cluck SQUAWK!)

I suffer from noisy hens, so on Googling I was interested to happen upon this term - the gakel call - which I'd never heard of previously and which describes exactly the noise my hens make that I find so infuriating....that low, rhythmic clucking followed by a loud bakawwwwww! Interestly, chickens d...

Does anyone use a full height plastic garden shed as coop?

Hi, does anyone use a plastic garden shed? If so, which model have you got and how sturdy is it in eg windy weather? And how sound proof are they?! I'd also be interested to know how you have kitted it out inside. I'm considering getting one for my 4 hens. My current coop is wooden - no red mites ye...

Re: Buff Orpington cockerel needs home - northumberland/NE

This was taken a couple of weeks ago with a second cockerel who was more dominant. Since his departure, the remaining one (on the left) has become the dominant male so has bigger comb, droopier tail feathers, crowing etc. They both changed so rapidly from looking hen-like - hence me not knowing unti...

Re: Need to rehome a Buff Orpington cockerel - Northumberlan

Thanks. I know, I'd dearly love to keep him, but he's crowing loudly now and I have neighbours to consider. Here he is (if this works!) He's the one on the left, taken approximately 2 weeks ago when the other cockerel was there and was dominant. Since the other one left, the remaining one has become...

Buff Orpington cockerel needs home - northumberland/NE

I have a beautiful, placid Buff Orp needing a home. We thought he was a she :? So hard to tell with Orps, but no doubt now! He is around 38 weeks old and a lovely nature, beautiful bird, well kept by myself (a garden keeper). He is in the south west Northumberland area

Need to rehome a Buff Orpington cockerel - Northumberland

After posting my last pictures of my 38 week old Buff Orps, you were indeed all correct - both are cockerels , One has happily been rehomed, but the other remains here. The breeder has offered to swap him with something else, but unless she can rehome him then he will be going to slaughter I fear So...

Thanks for having a look - I appreciate everyone's opinion on it.

I Buff Orp cockerel or 2? Opinions on pics please!

Hi, haven't posted for a while, but in the Autumn I got 2 more hens to accompany my 2 Copper Black Maran girls. As a bit of central heating for the coop for winter I got 2 gorgeous baby buff Orpingtons. They are now around 36/37 weeks old and beautiful - the sweetest natures too, very calm. Anyway, ...

Re: Poorly hen! Help, how can I help her?!

Wow! Great poo photos! It seems more watery - no brown bits in it, but had bits of white egg white type stuff running through it. It says hen too hot.....could it be a reaction to her sitting on the heat pad then coming indoors? I've popped her back out into the coop now but I don't know how she'll ...

Re: Poorly hen! Help, how can I help her?!

Thanks so much for the advice. Her breathing is normal, no signs of discharge from beak or bottom, BUT we just brought her indoors for a cuddle and massaged her crop a bit and tried to syringe some sugar water in to her mouth, and she's just done a very watery-white poo - like egg white. Any ideas w...
