Re: Laurel cuttings

Thank you! I did look on the internet and found a site with instructions so some cuttings are hiding from the weather right now. A friend then cleared some of his plants out and gave me some at 3 feet high so problem solved.

Thanks for your advice though.

Laurel cuttings

Hello everyone I have a lovely laurel which is getting too big, however I would like more of them in other parts of the garden. Obvious question; can I take cuttings and save a few bob at the garden centre? The more precise your reply the better please as I am inexperienced in cuttings/propagation. ...

Manda

Please tell us you are all ok when you get a moment Manda.

I spent some time in Hamner Springs.

Thinking of you all.

Re: Chickens over winter

My tuppenceworth is that warm water freezes more quickly than cold: true. -25 is a different league to us so perhaps local knowledge worth seeking out? Birds keep their legs warm by the warm blood going down warming up the cooler blood coming up. Wading birds are unfazed by 'freezing' slat water eve...

Re: Bananas

Hi all

Peel two bananas and put in a dish barely bigger than them. Sprinkle with quality brown sugar - muscavdo is it? Slosh some dark rum over and bake until hot through then add a dollop of good vanilla ice cream and enjoy.

Then drink the rest of the rum....

Cheers

Re: Red Mite strikes!

Hi. The way we got rid of mite is as follows: Get some tubes of cheap silicone and a gun from the pound shop and seal every single joint in the hen house. Sides joining roof and floor, perches joining walls etc, but every single one. Get an empty kitchen/bathroom spray bottle and wet all surfaces in...

Re: Giving a cat a pill

Poor little Pippin lost his battle and was quietly put to rest by our lovely vet on Rebecca's lap. There was no chance of survival so the correct decision. Just so terribly sad and with no animals left the place is desolate.

Re: Getting my Hens

You sound like you are ready to go so enjoy your hens through the summer and endure the early starts through the cold months. Foxes worry all owners. Our neighbours were always telling us of foxes next to our garden but we were never attacked. Male urine is supposed to help so (how can I put this......

Re: Giving a cat a pill

Hello PP We play good cop/bad cop here so R does the force method and I search for the wonder food. Two discoveries are the stuffing from a commercial sausage roll - rubbish food for cats (and humans) but he'll die without the pills so who cares? Also cheap and cheerful cat food in cans from the sup...

Re: Giving a cat a pill

Thanks all - everything noted and to be tried. Not sure how long the pills will be required though as he has gone downhill again. Another cat treat is a 'Dreamie', which has a slightly soft centre and if you cut one end off you can stuff the half pill in there. Seems to me the drug companies are mis...

Re: Giving a cat a pill

Don't worry Mo, we only did that a couple of times. Thanks for the butter idea too - we have a pill 'crusher' but he won't go anywhere near anything with the drug's smell - the pill must be hidden and whole. Todays success was a tin of awful looking 'ham' which went down a treat! Don't worry about a...

Re: Giving a cat a pill

Thank you very much all - we appreciate your time All you suggestions have been tried (apart from jam! which will be tried tomorrow - which is the best flavour...?) and they all succeeded for a day or two or less. Yesterday's favourite was left-over lamb meatballs from the spaghetti dinner but no in...

Giving a cat a pill

Hello everyone Does anyone have a suggestion on what to make pills attractive to cats. Pip needs 3 a day and having them dropped into a forced open mouth is making him hate us and stop eating altogether. I can remember my childhood cat loving yeast tablets and marmite but the later is quite salty wh...
