Re: M1 eglu andM2 eglu

I have no idea about this, but would suggest asking on the Omlet forum or just phoning up Omlet to ask - I've heard nothing but good things about their customer service.

Re: When will 'Mum' start laying eggs again?

My silkie raised 8 ducklings and started laying when they were about 8-9 weeks old. She still lives with them, but has stopped looking after them now.

Re: Daisy is gone...

She's back!! Two nights gone and we just found her free ranging in the garden like nothing happened. Have had a quick exam and she is perfectly fine, just wanted to see what else was around I guess. I'm so pleased. I think the not knowing what had happened would have been horrible for me. Now just n...

Re: Daisy is gone...

Well still no Daisy today. I can't help but think she has wondered off somewhere. Having had a better look at the white feathers all over our garden I can't see any of Daisies and surely if she had been snatched by a fox there would be at least one stray feather?? Anyway, send some positive vibes ou...

Daisy is gone...

I'm completely perplexed. The ducks and chickens have been out all day and we know for sure that she was here at dinner time as she was chasing the ducks. I went to shut everyone in about an hour ago and she is just gone! I suppose it could have been a fox, but would be strange as the back garden is...

Re: wood vs plastic

You can just buy the eglu or cube without the run if you are planning to build your own anyway - it is less expensive! I didn't have the cash for plastic, so bought a wooden one advertised for 12 for my 5 hens. I then sealed up all the internal nooks and gaps with filler and painted it with some whi...

Re: The Great Egg's Chicken Adventures

Oh the excitement continues - Ms. Melson has gone broody!! I wonder if the sight of the mothering hen and ducklings has awakened her inner goddess? Regardless she's been turfed out of the coop and all access has been denied until bedtime. She is fine free ranging - just fluffs up and growls on the e...

Re: The Great Egg's Chicken Adventures

Ah yes Sandy! We are in a village outside Bristol, so not far at all! The silkie is going to be dwarfed, I hadn't thought of that. I assume at some point she will lose interest in the ducklings and then I plan to integrate her in with the chickens. They will all free range together in the garden any...

Re: The Great Egg's Chicken Adventures

It has been an exciting week here. First I put the straw bale down as bedding on the run floor. Not a long term solution, but the builders sand in there was becoming a mess and difficult to poo pick. I'm now weighing up options for a longer term solution and starting to lean towards woodchip. Origin...

Re: Ducks

The ducklings have arrived! They are completely freaked out, particularly the silkie, which is understandable. They are currently trying to get some sleep in the playhouse. I keep peeking at them through the windows http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv146/wendybird_bucket/Chickens/P1060639480x640.j...

Re: What could I use as a temporary chicken coup?

Hi Andy - I was looking at those as well, just to have for a medical ward, introductions etc. I think it would be fine (in my inexperienced opinion) for a couple of weeks and very handy to have around. Also, as you are getting ex-caged they will be used to cramped quarters so may find it less confin...

Re: Ducks

Thanks Manda, I'll do that. Good news on the duck feed as well, they had the waterfowl crumb so I've now got a 20k bag of that. I wondered if that was too much, but was assured that they would eat it! Just thinking through the housing, is it ok to use bliss bedding on the floor of the playhouse? The...
