There are a lot of individuals and families struggling to afford fresh produce right now, and having a cheaper - but still fresh - option might make all the diffe...

Aw, poor thing. I'd have her if we lived closer. I hope she gets over it and settles down.

Re: Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables.....

The farmers would definitely do a lot better out of it if they could do direct sales, because supermarkets are notoriously awful to their suppliers (just one example: all those BOGOF offers are funded by the suppliers, not the supermarket, and the suppliers have no choice but to fund them whenever t...

Re: Is Organic better?

Organic whenever possible, and one of the reasons we grow as much as possible of our own. Re: Plants to avoid with chickens

On the other hand, they (or at least ours) do eat seed potatoes. We thought we were planting first earlies. They thought we were creating a treasure hunt for their entertainment and delectation. No first early crop this year...

Re: It's amazing we eat an egg !

All excellent points, Richard! But you missed the issue of where the eggs come from. My mother was telling me the other day about a small boy she once knew who would eat as many eggs as he could get, until the day he saw a hen lay one. He came barrelling into the kitchen to inform his mother of the ...

Re: Cleaning a mucky bottom!

Thanks very much again, Kitla! I did wonder how that could work since the lice feed on feathers, not blood. But then the same should apply to Frontline, shouldn't it? >shrug<

Mrboons, my apologies for hijacking your thread, and sincere thanks for starting it! +f+ Also, >gl< with the marigolds!
