Re: dirty bottom, dropped purple comb, red belly

Hi Karen, I bought AniForte Wurm-Formel. I cannot find flubenvet on amazon.de nor in the shops around. Do you know the detailed composition of flubenvet or at least if they sell it in europe (not UK) under another name? Aniforte contains only natural products and the reviews I read are good. It cont...

Re: dirty bottom, dropped purple comb, red belly

New from my girl. Yesterday I managed to put her in a box and we drove to a vet. The vet never saw a chicken before, mainly parrots, little birds, cats, dogs, guinea pigs... IN the waitingLooked at me a bit puzzled... looked at the chicken... and after a short check informed me that my girls has wor...

Re: dirty bottom, dropped purple comb, red belly

Thanks to all of you for your advice. This morning when we woke up she was still a bit slow (the last one to come out of the coop) She has been always the leader of the group. The belly was normally warm. The purple red comb a bit less purple then normal. All in all slightly better, but not OK. The ...

Re: dirty bottom, dropped purple comb, red belly

Thanks Perchy for your reply I will check it out tomorrow when they wake up. I do not know whether she is laying as I could never tell which of my 4 girls is laying when and what. I did have one egg less then usual(so it may be that yesterday and today she has stopped) She has not been wormed, and I...

dirty bottom, dropped purple comb, red belly

Dear down the lane, one of my girls is not fine. She is isolating herself, I left them this morning free in the garden and she preferred to peck all alone (she never did it before) The first thing I notice is her a very dirty bottom, the skin of the belly is red, and the tip of the comb has a purple...

Re: frostbite - prevention tips?

this morning only one of the 4 girls had a comb with frostbite signs. Now all of them have it. They were out in the run the whole day at temperature around -6, and this late afternoon, when I checked them, all 4 had their comb affected by the frost.. despite the vaselin in the morning.. so I am not ...

frostbite - prevention tips?

Dear down-the-lane fellows, here we have at the moment temperatures below 0°C dropping to -10 at night. I have been putting vaseline on the comb of my girls every day since the temperatures dropped below 0. This morning when I opened the coop I found traces of frostbite on the girl with the biggest ...

Re: Droopy comb

manda, yes, thanks. That definitely helps. Actually, the girl has a relatively big comb, this may be the reason. I do not see any other sign like change of colors or lesions. I am just a bit nervous as the temperature is dropping and this is the first winter I have the girls, and I do not believe th...

Droopy comb

Dear downthelane, today I went out to feet my girls and noticed that one of them (the last in the hierarchy) has a droopy comb. Can this be a sign of disease? I wanted to check if something else is wrong... but I have no idea what to look for. She is active, eats, and I do not see any behavioral cha...

Winter is coming

Dear experts, My girls arrived sometime in May this year and since then I never had a problem. At a certain point the egg shell was not always hard, then I changed food, and all went back to normal. Now winter is coming and 3 of the girls are sleeping in the nest (I have an eglu) whereas the 4th (wh...

Re: my new chicken do not drink!

Thanks everybody for your hints! I dip their beaks in the water cup, and swish the water around.. and it worked! I also put some pellets on the ground and in a cup with some salads and put salads in the eglu food cup.. and now they are drinking and eating from the eglu cups. The chicken look healthy...

my new chicken do not drink!

I need help! (as usual) I need to understand how to show the new chicken where to drink! I got the eglu coop 2 days ago, with the standard drink and food dispensers. Yesterday afternoon, Saturday, I went to a "chicken industry" (not sure there is a similar name in english) and bought 4 20 ...
