Re: Storks is it normal to see them arrive in March? They can arrive anytime after Baba Marta Day which is the 1st March. They arrive on the coast much earlier than here as they stop at several places to feed when moving inland so yes, it is normal to see them in March. And......the good news is the male stor...
Re: StorksAlways a sight I enjoy.....@ 200 storks were circling above our house today so Spring has definitely arrived Many nests now have storks standing in them but our nearest nest remains empty, fingers crossed they make it back safely this year.
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! Have you tried Vivaldi potatoes ? I will own up to having never heard of them let alone tried them! Out here you have a choice of Kaufland or Lidl potatoes (the former grow extremely well) or what most people buy "the ones in the yellow netting". Types/varieties are rare to find and scarily yike* e...
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! Not sure about Vivaldi spuds but I thoroughly enjoy listening to Nigel Kennedy playing Vivaldi!
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! That's it, last of the spuds planted today, relieved that job is done as we are forecast heavy rains now for a couple of days
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog!Today I planted four more fruit trees, two peach and two apricot to replace the ones that where killed off by flood damage then managed to get four lines of spuds in the ground (@ 120 of them), lots more to go yet.
Re: Compulsory registration for all keepers of birds in the UKSo, as I thought, now they have put the tick in the box: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-measures-to-help-protect-poultry-industry-from-bird-flu#:~:text=Bird%20keepers%20will%20need%20to,deadline%20on%201%20October%202024 I quote: "Bird keepers will need to provide information, including thei...
Re: What are you listening to? Just watched your link Trev, different to say the least, but not my cup of tea. I prefer Chopin, Beethoven, Tchiakowsky, etc. I agree they will not be to everyone's taste but watching them in concert is breathtaking. Tonight as I type this I am listening to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB8F852q...
Re: GoatsGoat milking stand completed today and it works It is also level, I have glued some roofing felt to the top surface to help prevent any of them slipping now we just have to persuade the goats to go on it.
And I thought building the stand would be the hardest part!
Re: GoatsThey are, but more importantly they are easier for an older guy like me to manage!
Re: What are you listening to?I have been listening to this group for years and have just watched one of their earlier concerts. Not a group for everyone but the sound they produce is basic and raw. I put the headphones on, raise the volume and get lost in it. I suppose that is what old guys like me just do :-D I present...........
Re: GoatsAdded to our small herd today, we collected two mini Hollandi goat mothers with their four kids. The kids are actually smaller than our cats at present. They are very nervous at present having had little human contact and will be quarantined for a month before being introduced to our other goats. Fi...
Re: Trev62-An intermittent gardening blog! I miss growing Jerusalem artichokes - they made excellent "chips" when sliced and deep fried. They grew well in less than ideal soil on the allotment but were prone to slug damage which is why they needed to be harvested as soon as the plants died back. That is how we like them as well. I did not r...
