As the others have said, there is nothing like the feeling of finding your first egg...

Don't worry about getting excited )c( I spent weeks eagerly looking in the nest boxes, when we got our new Point-of-Lay hens and ended up ringing everyone that was interested when I found the first egg! LOL

Instead of a chocolate egg this easter...

We are both trying to diet, so we asked the families not to buy us easter eggs this year... well N's parents came down at the weekend and instead of easter eggs we got money towards an easter hen ;) Just emailed the our local supplier to see if she has any Skyline hens left! If she does, we will be ...

These days... our hens are never locked in the house, so I have no idea what time they get up.

Although when I lived at my parents house and had chickens that were locked up inside the shed at night they were let out when we got up. (Normally between 7am - 8am)

Hi Jo, She will be fine... it's only because she is used to being with the others in the main pen. With her spending most of the day/night on the nest she will hardly be affected, fingers crossed she will soon have some chicks and once she does she will completly forget about the others. Glad everyt...

Tomato Plants and Hens... ???

Hi Laners, I have been looking on the internet for advice regarding Hens & Tomato plants, but keep coming across different answers... We re-use old car tyres from the local garage as planters on the allotment and this year have them stacked and painted around the edge of the main hen coop. Plan ...

Funny isn't it... we offer lots of various nest boxes or places to lay and it's seems most hens prefer one box out of all the others.

Out of 5 nest boxes and 7 hens, 6 all lay one with the other hen (One of the Black Rocks) choosing a different one on the opposite side. :? :)

Hi Jo, If you have somewhere to seperate her and rear the chicks, I would try and talk your hubby around in the nest few days and then if he agrees, let her have ago with some fertile eggs... There is nothing better than seeing a hen with her own chicks, it's amazing how gentle (But protective) they...

Oh he's gorgeous... I would be so tempted to try him out with my girls, but i'm not too sure on how much noise the local houses can hear and have held back on keeping a cockerel incase the crowing attracts unwanted attention to the girls. I do hope you find him a home though as he really is a handso...

I quite like the look of your brown hen with the pale neck not seen one like that before. Hi Taz, Yes she is my favourite I must admit... she is the smallest of all but is so tame! Her colour was the main reason for picking her as she stood out compaired to all the other Warrens. I have made the vi...
