Chicken Carrier Advice

Hello everyone, I have four girls which we're thinking of booking in at the hen hotel when we go on holiday next year. However, I'm unsure what to transport them in. Do you think it would be less stressfull for them in some kind of pet carrier which they'd be able to see out of or in boxes which wil...

Re: The Cube again

Am I a bit exessive then as I poo pick from the coop every morning when my four girls get up. I put newspaper down on the bottom of the tray when I clean once a week and then 'Bliss' bedding on top so I just pick the poo out and add a bit more bedding if necessary. I also poo pick in the run every n...

Re: got cracked ribs

OMG I did the same thing on Monday. Luckily I'd left the little side door open so ended up head and shoulders in the run otherwise I'd have crashed into the whole thing and hubbie wouldn't have heen happy if I'd broken his handywork. I've got a very bruised chin and a scabby knee. Could have been a ...

Re: Lost our little Treacle

So sorry millie {hug} I can't bear all the losses this week. We've yet to experience it as we only had our girls since August but everytime I read about a loss it brings tears to my eyes {hug&kiss} I never thought you could get so attached to a chicken {hug}

Boredom Busting Tips Please!

My 4 girls are in a fairly good sized run for the best part of the day while we are at work. The run is partly soil and partly flagged, they also have a covered area and a few nooks and crannies to explore. However, I'm bit worried about them being bored for such a long strech of time, especially co...

Re: Ups and downs

Oh John, how lovely and I whole heartedly agree. We've only had our girls since August and like you didn't feel brave enough to take on ex-batts first time round however, we couldn't imagine life now without them. They've taken over everything we do and almost every converstion we have is about the ...

Worming Query?

I've been worming my girls this week with Flub (think I must have got one of the last lots before the shortage ). It's the final day tomorrow and I mixed it with the pellets with a little olive oil. My question is that I haven't noticed any worms in their poo. Does this mean they didn't have a probl...

Re: Could it have been a "lash"?

I wonder if that's what we had from our Bluebelle last night. We've only had her a couple of months and she was laying for the first few weeks but then stopped. We took her to the vet as someone panicked us into thinking she may be egg bound but she was x-rayed and there was no egg in sight For the ...

Re: Dirty bums

Hi grandmaeileen, is your one with the dirty bum a Bluebelle? Our Bluebelle has been like than on and off since we had her and she's very timid although she's the biggest. We've renamed her Frank as she thunder's along like a heavyweight when she's on a mission :-D

Feeling Guilty!!

Hello We've had our 4 girls nearly two months now and every morning I've felt sick with guilt that I've had to leave them in the run for the whole day whilst I was at work even though they were allowed out and about as soon as I got in and at weekends. Therefore we decided to sacrifice a large part ...

Re: 7 weeks on.....

We feel exactly the same about our 4 girls! We've had them for 6 weeks now and don't know how we lived our life without them. Someone once said to me a life without chickens is like tonic without gin!! How right they were >eas2<

Re: Bluebelle's Stopped Laying!

Thanks everyone for your replies, it's very reassuring to know it's not unusual and nothing to worry about. Hopefully she'll get back into the swing of things again shortly >ch<

Bluebelle's Stopped Laying!

Hello, I'm new to the forum and also new to chicken keeping. We've had our four girls (Bluebelle, Roxy, Ranger and Speckel) for about 6 weeks. Ranger's still quite young and hasn't started laying yet but the other 3 started a couple of weeks after we had them. However, we haven't had an egg from Blu...
