Re: Scaly Leg?

Personally I've not used ivermectin before, so I asked the vet I work with about it. There is a product called Xeno which vets stock which contains ivermectin and that is licenced for use on birds (as well as small furries). When I once had a hen who showed signs of scaly leg mite I just put loads o...

Re: Worming

Its a good idea to always worm any new hens you get. Flubenvet is very easy to use and it won't harm your hens at all - only help them if they do have any worms.

Good luck for the weekend )t'

Re: feeling totally overwhelmed

Good advice from Richard. It goes without saying that the rats haven't just appeared and it is because the derelict buildings and garden have been 'disturbed' that they are venturing more frequently into your garden and probably other gardens. At least the new owners are doing something about the ga...

Re: squishy Undercarriages

Did your vet prescribe antibiotics for this hen, or are you using antibiotics which weren't prescribed for this chook?

If your chook 'mouth breathing' there are a few reasons for this - any obstruction/gape worms - can be indicative of stress or pain or over-heating.

Hope your chook ok {hug}

For the Love of Cars

I missed first 10 minutes of this programme last night. Normally only thing I know about cars is where steering wheel is and where I put petrol. I really enjoyed this programme presented by Philip Glenister.

Last night was about doing up a Ford Mexico - next week its a Land Rover. I'm hooked!

Re: Human irresponsibilty and Foxes

Another one here who loves all creatures. People get a bit uppity about foxes and don't want them living anywhere near them, but hey that's life!

I crush my tins and cut the plastic things that hold packs of tins and drinks together.

Re: Whose poo is this?

If pink clog is size 13 - 1 (child/adult) I would say something like wood pigeon. If it is an adult size 8 clog then I'm guessing goose. :-D Hope this helps.

Re: Dust baths how to make an artificial one?

I made a lovely dustbath for my chooks using a pallet collar, sheeting, some sand and soil mixed to a lovely mix - even had a little gazebo over top of it. The chooks decided to ignore this and chose instead to dig holes in the middle of the run and bathe in that instead.

Hi and welcome to the world of chook keeping. )t'

Keeping poultry is a learning curve, I've kept them for a number of years and it is STILL a learning curve for me. Would love to see some piccies (we are a nosey bunch on here). :-D

I think its housemartens who are in the process of making yet another nest in Jas's stable. Do love them but Jas spends a few weeks looking less than attractive wearing bird poo down his mane and back. Good for my heart when I'm going into stable to find a bird on its way out - they are so amazing i...
