Re: Poverty

Agreed Mo, but I used my nappies for both my children, then passed them on. I used to have a nappy bucket to soak them in and then stuck them into my old twin tub washing machine after I'd used it for the main wash (using the same water) for a good hot wash. I fully intend to buy a twin tub for the ...

Poverty

On Radio 4 this morning an interview with a young mother from South America "if I buy nappies for my baby I cannot afford to feed her and vice versa" also I know of at least one shop in our Bulgarian village that sells nappies individually. Now disposable nappies where a new thing when I h...

Re: Just returned from "Frugal Central"

Not long to go now and as I'm traveling hand luggage only and it will have to be a very small bag according to Wizz air, I'll be dressed up like "Nanook of the North" so in the bag will be a copy of the deeds to the house needed to pay the tax, my tablet, spare underwear and (courtesy of T...

Re: Clearing out

The clear out continues I passed on an unworn dress from a noted maker to a friend yesterday as I'd bought it in a smaller size thinking I'd get into it. If it doesn't fit here she'll put it on ebay and we'll split the proceeds. Meanwhile she's going to help me set up my own ebay account so I can co...

Re: Clearing out

Please don't give me any more ideas for old t-shirts, I'd already considered tearing them into strips and knitting a rug, and saw an article a few years ago on how to turn them into shopping bags, i.e tie a knot at the bottom cut off the sleeves and turn it inside out, you may have to cut the neck b...

Re: Clearing out

I know exactly what you mean Mo, there's nothing more frustrating than searching for a book because you read it years ago and suddenly its on TV I must have got rid of The Handmaidens Tale then spent time trying to find it to re-read with no luck. I taped Vanity Fair then re-read the book (before pa...

Clearing out

Yes I've decided to have a mega clear out and sort my clothing into Keep, Donate and "what on earth was I thinking about". I've started with my shoes (since I retired from work and after having a new knee, heels are something I never intend to wear again and I spend most of my waking hours...

Re: Just returned from "Frugal Central"

Well I've just booked a "solo" return to our Bulgarian house for early March 2019, which means weather wise that I could be there in deep snow (in a house with no heating) or t-shirts and shorts weather (at least during the day). Getting to our village in the off season requires a lot of p...

Wet ,cold day so........

Wet, cold day so, the bread is baked, (I only make bread rolls so I can store them in the freezer and take them out as and when required) and cooling in the kitchen and while my homemade chicken and veg soup is de-frosting I'll use up some more of the £1 stew pack bought at the weekend to make some ...

Re: Black Friday

Congratulations if you managed to get a true bargain, it just seems wrong to me that Americans spend Thursday "giving thanks" for what they have, then the very next day go out and fight each other in shops for the right to purchase more stuff. So I'll "keep my powder dry" and pic...
