First cuckoo of the year?

Post by AL37 »

I heard one today, at first I thought I was hearing things but within a couple of minutes I heard it again. It called four times all together, I always thought mid to late april was the usual time for them. :?
I am sure there is a saying associated with the first cuckoo of the year but I cant remember it, can anyone enlighten me? :-D

The cuckoo arrives in April
It sings it's song in May
It changes it's tune in the month of June
and July it flies away

Hmm I wonder if it was a cuckoo then, maybe the german clock maker in the village has lost one of his parrots. )j;
Seriously, I am sure I heard it. :?

Do they perchance sound like a bird, pecking wood? )grin2(

Mind you, it could be a bi-lingual woodpecker. If it saw a couple of good looking wood pigeons, then perhaps they were just calling them ..cooo...cooo...
