Willow t*ts!

Post by Mallard »

We have at least one pair on the allotments as they visit my bird feeder on a regular basis. :-D It's a googled pic, as I've never managed to get close, even with a tele-photo!

Our resident wildlife expert says they're not common?

They aren't all that common anymore and were put on the endangered list last October along with the lesser spotted woodpecker.

We have both in abundance here, We must be lucky! We have breeding pairs of the green, lesser and greater spotteds that regularly visit our garden.

They take it in turns to dig ants and grubs and stuff out of a bank in the garden. We get hours of fun watching the young get to grips with ugger 'things' they dig out. They even ignore the chickens, 3 feet away behind a leccy fence, looking on in envy.

They are very pretty. I had never heard of them before. But you can see they are from the same family.

The great has the black cap but is bigger with lots of yellow; the willow, marsh and coal don't have the yellow and blues just black and grey! Clear as mud! )grin2(
