the pupa`s aren`t that big really compared to the size of the moth

the adults will only live a week or so, they have no mouth parts so can`t feed

Ock they are beautiful - but they do freak me out a bit .. they are so big ... I think I would have a bit of a turn if they were flying round the room {rofwl}

Got to say this, they are absolutely beautiful and huge.

Clare my daughter has just looked at the piccies and wants to know why/how you wanted/became involved in moths originally, Ock.

This could have been mentioned before, but Clare said the Deaths Head Hawk Moth was in the film The Silence of the Lamb too.

don`t know really, a couple of years ago a girl I know asked if anyone wanted some lunar moth eggs on facebook, I just thought it might be cool rearing them and said yes, this year I thought I`d try some more moths as I had the cages etc already so bought the deaths-head eggs from ebay, then the boyfriend of the girl who gave me the other eggs a couple of years ago asked if I want some atlas eggs, just went from there really,

I love it now and plan on getting some different sorts next year and maybe some butterflies too

yeah the deaths-heads do come from "the silence of the lambs" )grin2( )grin2(

She is beautiful, Ock. Do you know how big she actually is?

I have always been told with butterflies/moths that if you touch their wings a powder comes off and it stops them flying, is that right do you know?

just measured her, she`s 3.5 inches across and yes if you touch the wings you rub the scales off so they can`t fly as well, these one`s live for about two weeks

Wow, thats a fair size then. Will she grow anymore?

You see, I retained that info re their wings, thinking it was useless at the time, but has come in handy now..........makes me look 'quite' knowledgeable, doesnt it? LOL
