Snake / Eel / Thing Identification

Post by Richard »

My daughter found this in her back garden today (she lives near the Shore in Southampton Water).

I can only imagine a bird dropped it.

I've googled and the nearest thing I can find to it is a 'Snake Pipefish' (google image it for your view).
Only thing against that is they are more in the North than the South.

Maybe someone can help?

Certainly has the right mouth for a pipe fish.
Maybe it came down South on it's holidays.

Pipefish, yes. The thing is things are turning up in strange places due to global warming.

We, on the other hand, really did have a snake in the chook pen, got stuck in the chick run (luckily empty) 5ft long and not happy!

Love the snake Tosca. I don't have a problem with them, only when you find one expectantly !!

Odd, Richard. I thought it reminded me of something, pipe fish sounds right.

Did you have to dismantle the coop Tosca?

All I know about eels/snakes comes from the folk song. If they are Green and Yeller and after eating them your dogs
...swelled and died , mother,
swelled and died , mother,
Mother be quick I got to be sick and
lay me down to die.

Then they're not eels, they're snakes, and you'd be better avoiding them when your girl friend cooks them.

OH cut the wire from inside, he hates snakes. {rofwl}

I shouldn't laugh really, the run was inside the chook enclosure, they were watching from the dust bath. totally unfazed!

Yes, I'd say that is a pipefish - closely related to the sea horses, but stay straight rather than sort of 'S' shaped.

Not much meat on 'em!

Cheers
