Fabindia or other Bee Followers

Post by Richard »

This youngster crawled out of the Bug House this evening.

Maybe too young to tell, could it be a Leafcutter or a Honey Bee just finding it's feet by chance on the Bug House ?

I showed this pic to my friend who's a bit of a wildlife geek, this is what he thinks it
is - osmia bicolor, Red Mason bee, solitary bee, nests in small holes in walls etc.

Ah., thank you kitla.

Looking at Leafcutters they seem more profound lines. I wasn't sure as it's obviously very young and it was on the roof of the bug house.

An interesting picture. Doesn't look like a honey bee to me.

One thing's for sure bees are an immensely interesting and diverse species.

A bee is not just a bee and not in the category of 'they all look the same to me'

We've those giant Hornets around at present, keep out of their way, especially if they've flown over from France !!

If you see an Asian hornet then according to the national bee unit, this should be reported to the Great British Non Native Secretariat.

They are potential a very serious threat to British bee keeping. Let me know if you want the email address.

My bug house is in a rather secluded bit of the garden and I tend not to look at it much. All that will now change in the hope that I will one day see a bee as beautiful as yours Richard!
