Squirrels thieving wild bird feed

Interesting one this. I'm not altogether sure I want to distract the Squirrels as I rather like watching them, but I have to admit, it costs me a fortune in Peanuts ! The bird's don't seem to care much either. So, as an experiment, I have two Feeders, so thought I'd try the above method on one of them, just to see. It is strange that Squirrels up their game for Wild Bird Feed at this time of the year, when there's loads of Hazelnut and Chestnut trees no more than 50 meters away from here ! What I think is so wonderful though, is the fact that the human species with all it's technology can be beaten by 'the underdog' !! Little Ruggers ! Richard I use Fatballs as well.

I love watching them as well. I have feeders for the birds, hanging in the trees and just put whole peanuts on the bird tables for the squirrels.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Used to get quite a few in our garden until we got the dog - if one dares to venture in now he soon chases it back where it came from.
I have to say I think they're cute even if they are rat with tails My bird feeders are being visited regularly by robins and coal-tits at the moment, they love the fat balls I have a lovely little wren around today, so cute.

There is a grey squirrel that visits next door neighbours to empty the bird feeders on a regular basis. It has a temper on it if it doesn't get a load of peanuts at first go. Ends up shaking the bird feeders furiously!!

Helping to give ex-battery hens a fresh start! http://thevintagebelles.blogspot.co.uk/ My bird table has so far not been got at. It is a tall hook/pole stuck in the ground with the table hanging off it. The squirrels cannot climb the shiny thin metal pole, and if they try to jump on it, it rocks from side to side and they fall off Its also positioned away from trees so they can only try and jump off the ground
They are extremely cunning critters but (so far) this one has them fooled |
