Giant African Land Snails

Post by Emmamoo »

I have to pick up some on Monday afternoon! :) :)

Most unusual pets, I am absolutely looking forward to them. I held one at London Zoo this summer and was really fascinated by them and then on Friday my sons childminder announced she had 8 to give away.

I also had three for years. In fact I am looking after one for someone at the moment and two went home last week. Great pets.

Would be nice to have an unusual pet - I've always been a bit partial to a tortoise!

On the feeding of alcohol to animals note.......when we were kids my dad gave all the fermented apples from his wine making to the goat, she scoffed the lot & was utterly smashed, we had to prop her up between two bales of straw, she had a runny bum & the worst hangover I've ever seen, what a dip stick, what did he think would happen     he just said he didn't want to waste them
Cheers

I am sure beer can't be good for them isn't really 'natural' is it?

My little guest has just gone home. She was lovely.
One thing Emma, when older they do produce eggs......lots of them.If you don't either squash them or give them to the chickens you will get overrun, with tiny little baby snails and then it is hard to do.
I felt rotten doing it, but strangely enough it is difficult to get homes for them. Most people say Yuk !

I've been advised to put them in bags in the freezer for 24 hours and then bin em.
