Elephant in the back garden

Post by Julia »

Does anyone listen to Terry Wogan in the morning?

Last week he was talking about a woman who took in an Elephant and kept it in her back garden during the Troubles in N. Ireland. Apparently they forgot where it was and issued a photo of the elephant just incase anyone had seen it. :-D

It did make me laugh at the thought of needing a photo. Hardly something you would miss.

We went for a ramble in the Peak District, and the leader was telling us a tall story that we should watch out for wallabies. We didn't believe it but he asked a passerby if they saw any unusal wildlife and he said "oh, you mean the wallabies" - they were evacuated from London zoo in the war and bred in the wild. We never saw any though.

Good job the elephant lady only took one, imagine if they'd bred and escaped!

Yes, Mo, we DO have wallabies, over on the Staffordshire moorlands border, although it is now thought they have died out, as none have been sighted for a while. My next door neighbour used to deliver things for a farm supplier, and said she was driving down a farm track, and a small kangaroo bounded across the track. This was a few years ago.

My cousin took a pic of a wallaby in the field across the road from where I work, they come from the wildlife park a few miles up the road. I shall now be on the alert with my camera too! No elephants over here though (f+
