Government money for bees

Post by saint-spoon »

It was announced on today’s lunchtime news that the government is putting around £15 million into combating the bee fleas/ mite and that nasty virus that’s been killing all our lovely bees. Personally I think that it’s far worthier cause than going towards paying for bath plugs and adult films for greedy ministers (and their husbands)

There has also been research which says that some pesticides could be weakening the bees leaving them prone to mites and viruses. Ofcourse nothing will be done about this because it is big business.

I was thinking about getting a hive only today. I think thatthe initial set up is quite expensive.

It is quite a worrying situation though, poor bees.

Can anyone remember who did the bee keeping course last year?

2 children, half a springer Spaniel, a Hamster, 2 Goldfish and an allotment. And a very excited, now mummy of some chickens again, Daisey, Dotty and Master Yoda!

A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion!

Realisticaly you are looking at 2-4 hundred pounds if you buy the set up.

Im putting some honeysuckle in my garden in the next couple of weeks, so hopefully will start attracting some bees... thats my contribution... I dont really fancy a hive! Although you can now buy little pots for bumble bees that sit quite happily on a corner of your patio... Theyre pretty harmless lil bees... so, might consider that..

Dont ask me where to get them from! I'll be 'Googling' later!
