I call it 'The Sleeping Poodle' !
It's about the only plant, apart from the vegetables' which I really like.
The Lane is a Public Footpath and loads of people admire it.
Obviously I didn't start it off and should I ever move, would love to take it with me - but won't go in the back of a Cinquecento!
I would imagine it's worth a few bob ? (not that I'd sell it)

What a stunning tree! It would be worth heaps if sold in a nursery.
I'd love a collection myself but I've got to find a spot that doesn't have the severe spring frosts. Does yours suffer if you get late frosts?
cheers
Jodi

Hi morph,
Interesting, so I google imaged the Maple
. Some of them were exactly the same as mine with longish thin leaves and others were the shape of a traditional maple leaf.
Anyways, I found one which was called.....
Japanese Maple 'Acer japonicum'
So I guess they're the same thing.
I'm confused now

It is very pretty Richard. I have a baby dwarf variety exactly the same and this year it seemed to be more noticeable in its autumn colours than in the other 5 years so I know I have something to look forward to every year now. I hope in time mine grows as big as your tree!

That makes sense to me Richard - it looked like a Japanese maple to me (I have a titchy one in a pot), but I've never heard of Acer.
It's very very lovely, and would be worth lots in a garden centre!!!

We call them Japanese Maple over here, but a relative in the UK - who collects them, calls them Acers - so Acer is probably the true botanical name.
cheers

Thanks Jodi. I'd take a close up of the leaves, but in the last week, they've shrivelled and most have fallen off.
