Ants in compost heap

Post by Effie »

After my chooks moved in, they quickly cleared out the ant colony that was established in an unused planter - great fun to watch, they sat in it and picked out the ants one by one.

Since then, the ants seem to have re-located to the compost heap. I've always had worms and woodlice in the compost. Should I do anything to get rid of the ants or should they be 'in there' too?

I'm not fussy about bugs etc., happy to have them in the garden, but don't welcome them into the house.

Life was easier when I didn't think about what I used/wasted. Glad you are all there for advice. :)

Thanks in advance, Effie

I had ants in mine last year so I kept mixing it up and they soon got fed up of their nest being trashed and left.
