Without a doubt the humble Jersey Royal potato is one of the joys of spring… but they’re extortionately priced. Therefore I wondered if it was worth giving it a go at some point and growing my own little crop… has anyone tried this before, can you buy the seed potatoes and do they rely on royal jersey soil for their flavour?

I have a friend that lives in Jersey and her house backs onto the potatoes fields.

When you see the labour put into producing these potatoes you can appreciate the extortionate price. They are picked by hand - normally portugese labourers and it really is back breaking work.

I have some this evening, we rarely eat potatoes so they are a nice treat.

Hi saint-spoon

You should be able to buy seed potatoes via a search engine. Grow them in a bucket or pot somewhere warm - that way you will get an early crop. The taste is from the potato as are all of them - I am not a connoisseur, I do know there are so many different tastes amongst all the varieties.
