Huge blackcurrants

Post by albertajune »

I picked blackcurrants this morning and was surprised how huge they are on the allotment.
The ones to the top of the picture are ours and the lower ones are from my neighbour. He never ever picks and although a chore, I just can't let them go to waste.

All the fruit seems to be doing well but really pleased with these.

I've picked most of mine now (not all are ripe), the blackbirds may have the rest before I get round to it like they did the redcurrants after I'd picked the earliest for 2 pies.
I had some big ones too, which I ate raw while strigging the rest for jam. Some varieties are bigger, sweeter than others, when fully ripe.
