Loo rolls and sweet peas

Post by p.penn »

If anyone is sowing their sweet peas now to overwinter in a cold frame, if you plant them into used loo rolls you can just plant the whole thing out in the spring avoiding root disturbance.

Loo rolls are especially good as they are nice and deep for the roots and are also good for runner bean growing. (f+

Another tip - keep the cardboard rolls slightly apart from each other - the cardboard has a habit of sprouting a lot of mould & various fungi when kept wet & cool, so the gaps allow some air around each & prevents the fungus from spreading across all the tubes.

try using loo rolls or kitchen paper towel rolls for parsnips as well. ive also tried them with marigolds and other plants that i'm not sure i'll remember where they've been planted! the top of the loo roll shows above the soil so there's no mistaking for a weed :)
