Temp compost bin?

Post by ntcrane »

Hi

My wormery and compost bin are full and as we now have 3 chickens we are making a lot of compostables!!

So I was wondering if i could set up a temp compost spot on one of my redundant (for winter) veg beds assuming that i will free up space by spring by both my compost breaking down and me using compost when planting out next spring.

My question is will this leave that bed too rich for planting veg in or is there anything that would thrive on an ex compost bin (apart from pumpkins?

It'll be fine ntcrane - avoid carrots & parsnips as the soil will be too rich, but perfect for beetroot, leaf beets (& chard), celery, potatoes, most summer fruiting veg (especially sweetcorn), tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, beans & peas. )t'
