Earthing up Potatoes with Grass Cuttings.

Post by Richard »

I wonder if anyone else does this?
Certainly saves on continually finding soil and seems to work well.

When the potatoes are pulled I just find some more composting material and mix it up with the grass.

Take the bottom stuff out at the start of the season, then start all over again.

The last two years I've grown Squash in the Compost Bin with great success.

What a great idea! Mind you, I use potato bags so maybe not so great for those! Will pass this tip on to friends who plant in the ground! Thanks, fab tip!

Yes, I have done this Richard. It works well when the compost heap is full, I put the cuttings straight onto the spuds. Not growing veg this year and sorry to say that my grass cuttings now go in the brown recycling bin. With the redesigning of my garden I don't have room for a compost heap now.

I've also done this. Lined the trench with quite a thick layer, makes it easy to know how far down to dig when lifting them. Then added cuttings and earth to earth up.
Now my grass just gets strimmed 3 times a year, so no clippings.
