Started to prepare some calabrese for the freezer today - should have soaked it in salt water first, too lazy, put it into the blanching water - ugh! lots of tiny caterpillars about 1/2 inch long floating in the water. I will have to stop being lazy.....

I did same with the first brocolli for the season. Picked it, put it in the fridge, completely forgot that I hadn't soaked it. Few hours later, cut up what I needed and cooked it with other vegies.

I cooked five catapillars yike*

I just can't enjoy my brocolli like I used to :(

cheers

I'm always just a little relieved to find that what I'm cooking is edible - even by other species!

These caterpillars are less than half and inch long and as thin as cotton.
Harvested some more today and soaked them in lots of salt water. The little things cling to the stems even in the salt water.
I think I have got them all - won't know till I blanch!
