Fruity treats

Post by Mo »

I often go to dances where the interval refreshments are 'bring and share'.
My cooking is filling rather than tempting. Fruit cake, flapjack, pies & crumbles; that sort of thing. Not what you'd take to a party.
I grow a lot of fruit. Rhubarb, soft fruit, cherries if I beat the birds, apples, plums. But the dances are not usually in the plum season, and though a slice of melon or pineapple is nice not many people would want to munch an apple or stick of rhubarb as part of a buffet.

So has anyone any suggestions for non-stodgy cold finger food using my stocks of fresh or frozen fruit. Most are 'fingers only', one club provides bowls and spoons.

How about making some sweet pastry cases, small ones for a buffet, and fill with whipped cream and some of your lovely fruit? If you have rasps in the freezer, you can pop them on still frozen, and they will thaw during the evening. Poached rhubarb would be lovely too.
