Chive flowers

Post by davina112 »

My friend told me today she had watched Nigel Slater put chive flowers into a salad. So I gave it ago, mine are garlic chives, it looked very pretty and tasted very nice, will definitely do it again.

I know chive flowers taste and look lovely in a salad, had them at a friends house ages ago. We had a BBQ yesterday and I needed chive for the salad and I can't bring myself to pick the flowers, they look so lovely! Took me ages to pick the chive, stalk by stalk to avoid picking the flowers off!

I've been removing flower buds from mine yike* cos I thought they would stop producing if I let them flower! Now I know, I'll let them produce some pretty, tasty flowers for me.
Thanks!

Didn't realise you could eat them either. Will have to try some cheese and chive flower scones now :)
