Ceramic knives

Post by secret squirrel »

Does anyone use these? I bought some a couple of weeks ago and wondered if anyone else uses them and what they think.

They ARE quite sharp but the jury is out for me, really. Not sure if I really prefer a good sabatier knife.? I've got, quite a few knives which I use for different tasks bit they are metal and you can get them good and sharp.

Also, what are your favourite methods for, sharpening ? I've never got,on with those sharpening steels and am wondering whether to get an electric sharpener.
How long do ceramic knives stay sharp for. The box says, when they need sharpening, consult a knife specialist, whatever that may be,,and where would I find one?

I haven't tried ceramic knives myself, but I did buy a funny little sharpening thing from Amazon, which does the job on normal metal knives quite well, even though it does remove shaves of metal. :?

Seen them a lot on the TV. Maybe I was expecting something else.
Recently I got a new speed peeler, that is kinda serrated and came free with something else I had for my birthday, oh, boy!!! It's lethal. Used to twice and took a chunk out of my nail the first time and my finger the second time. Lol

Maybe I'll persevere for a bit with the ceramic.

I've tried them at others homes but never bought one....I have a husband who has knives for all sorts of things (as we butcher our own meat).... to sharpen he spends time with a steel and he has a wet stone and a dry stone too....I just blunt them )grin2(

I prefer a stone to a steel. The flag stones on the side of my pond are pretty good. Lol
