The apples are juiced - should be cider soon

Post by fabindia »

Spend all day juicing apples. Added campden tablets so need to let the juice settle for a few days before adding cider yeast and then letting the fermenting commence.

Given the effort and then comparing the cost of cider in the supermarkets, I do wonder if it is worth it. But then I think, well that's not the point, it's that I have seen the blossom on the apple trees in the spring, watched the apples grow, picked and juiced them myself. So when we drink it, it will be like bottled sunshine :-D

I have tried various methods (not exactly cheap options, though they were borrowed or given so free to me) of juicing, then freezing as I'm tt. Loads of work. There is an easier option if you spend more than £500 and don't to remove maggots and frass.
I still have a smallish electric juicer but haven't used it for a couple of years - too much faff.
