Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)We picked up smoked bacon last week by mistake, fried it up for tea. It was so very salty, and last night (it was a double pack), I grilled it instead. We ate the first lot with a bread bun, the second lot with veggies. I can still smell it through the house, despite open windows and have sprayed with a fresh air spray.
Disgusting. Interesting to see the poll!
Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I'll eat both types but definitely prefer unsmoked.
Smoked is ok occasionally, Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I prefer smoked ...but we tend to smoke our own so we can have it the way we like it.

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I prefer unsmoked thick cut back bacon. Smoked bacon just tastes too salty

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I'm with Barry - unsmoked, thick-cut back bacon, yum! If we're doing an 'American' brekkie I get streaky but still unsmoked. I have the odd recipe where smoked works better but I can't, for the life of me, think what they are! Fibro fog is winning today

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I like any type of bacon, but prefer unsmoked. For flavour I don't think you can beat streaky.

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I based my unsmoked on the stuff we get from the shops and it doesn’t seem to matter if it is bought in plastic packs or from the fresh meat counter/butcher I detest the stuff that oozes white gunk when you cook it. Anyway the majority of the stuff from the supermarket is spoilt pig unsmoked back and it is my opinion that the unsmoked is tastier. HOWEVER, on one of my smaller ships on which I served Her Maj, we got bacon from a local chandler in Norway and the bacon came as a block, all cured the proper way and all that, brilliant, because it was delicious, we could cut it thick and the younger members of the ship’s company wouldn’t touch it because it wasn’t bright red and shiny like the bacon they get from the supermarket.

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I have always bought unsmoked, as it is slightly less processed. Sadly a rare treat these days as it's a dietary no-no for me!

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)Interesting. I go from one to the other, have my little fads.
I think the white stuff in the pan is salted water which they put into it. Same old thing, the more you pay, the less of that you get !! Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)in the past I would have said unsmoked but one day I picked up the wrong pack by mistake and thoroughly enjoyed it
Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I will happily eat either but if I had to pick one I'd go for unsmoked

Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I am afraid I prefer smoked bacon and always buy this.
Re: Smoked or Unsmoked Bacon ? (POLL)I forgot to buy bacon this week! Even with a list, I can miss items, next week will be unsmoked!
