Woodpecker!!!

Post by cheeky chicken »

Making tea bleary eyed at 7am this morning, looked out of the kitchen window and there was a woodpecker on our peanut feeder!

Wow!! So chuffed I have never seen one before, we have heard it in the trees round about, but didn't ever in a million years think it would come to the bird table!

They'll get everywhere !!

The good news is that, if you have one now, it'll probably stick around for you.

Is the Green or the Greater ?

We were shocked about 18 months ago to see the Great Spotted Woodpecker visit our bird-feeders....and to see them come back again and again....more common in gardens than most people think it seems... :)
Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday...

I have learnt recently that wookpeckers are real rogues at this time of year.
We have an elderly ex game keeper neighbour who has a lovely wood out back of his house. He was showing me how the woodpecker had bored a hole through solid oak to get into a nestbox, to eat the chicks.
Chickens probably recognise his ruthlessness..........................

Just a little thing about them, well big really.

Try and avoid feeding them near double glazed windows. They have a habit of flying into them (as do other birds too).

Don't know if you've seen this......
