Breakfast time for baby

We are used to having the blackbirds being very cheeky and taking their fill of pellets from our girl's feeders, one even waits while the Colonel puts the feeders out every morning. But this morning we were watching the girls while having our early morning cuppa and spotted Daddy blackbird actually feeding his offspring from one of the feeders. The chubby little baby ( nearly as big as Dad now ) was just standing at his side and waiting for each pellet to be popped into his beak. Cheeky pair !! I know they are supposed to be responsible in some way for red-mite, but unfortunately we have no way of keeping them out of our run and just have to put up with them, the girls don't seem to mind them and don't take any notice anymore.

Aw Milli thats lovely we also get loads of wild birds sometimes Sorrel chases them but then again she chases most things but the others dont tend to mind them Lindaxx

Forgot to say Linda, we had just started the girls on their course of Flubenvet today, so the blackbirds will be worm free too

At least your wild birds will be healthy Milli, by the size of the huge wood pigeons we get i think they have had a dose too, they certainly have plenty of weight on them Lindaxx

Couldn't believe it today, he is now feeding 2 babies!! They must be twins and Mummy blackbird is obviously on Maternity leave. They stand side by side while he gets a pellet out of the feeder and feeds each in turn and then they nip over for a drink! Blooming cheek!
